Rollergirl 101
What is a Rollergirl?
Rollergirls are tough, hard-hitting, fishnet-wearing athletes. Rollergirls are a little bit left of center, and more than a little fearless. But Rollergirls are also sisters, teammates, and dedicated to the sport. Roller Derby can bring out the best and worst in all of us, and there are many reasons women are drawn to derby. Bruises may last for a week, but the camaraderie and sisterhood last a lifetime.
Who is a Roller Girl?

There is no typical roller girl. OKCRD consists of waitresses, stay at home moms, business owners, students, hairdressers, librarians and elementary school teachers. Every rollergirl is unique, yet has striking similarities with rollergirls nationwide. Roller Derby Revival ESPN Video
How can I get involved with OKCRD?
To be a part of the team you need determination, desire, and the courage to work hard and try something new. You need dedication, because to be a member of the team you must meet attendance requirements at practices, exhibitions and public appearances in order to be an active, member of the league. Email us at recruit@okcrd.com for a schedule of upcoming open practices.
Do I have to be able to skate?

Some of OKCRD’s most talented skaters had never skated a day in their lives until they came to a practice. Others had not skate since grade school. Some had occasionally strapped on some Rollerblades in college. Only a handful would have considered themselves skaters before joining the league.
All participating skaters must
- be female and at least 18 years of age or older
- provide valid photo ID
- read, sign and return the OKCRD waiver and acknowledgment agreement
- read the OKCRD constitution as well as sign and return the “Signature of Compliance”
- Personal health insurance is not yet required but is strongly encouraged
Many current rollergirls said they had thought about joining for months before working up the courage to attend a practice. The time to join is here! OKCRD is always looking to meet new skaters interested in joining the league and becoming a part of the best thing to happen to Oklahoma City since 2006!
